Fundraising Letter

 Dear Friend/Donor,

I write you this fundraising letter, weeks past the Haiti earthquake, post Copenhagen climate summit, and in the shadow of one year memorial of Gaza massacre and other illegal wars.

On February 20 [World Day of Social Justice], Art And Struggle will be celebrating our first year anniversary in which we accomplished to build this lively digital gallery [over 20, 000 viewers weekly], held art exhibitions from New Britain to Manhattan, host periodical panel discussions with educators, reporters and doctors, and engaging audience consisting of everyday people to dedicated activists, but without your help we will no longer be able to bring you and your communities the alternative voices, or that type of art many news organizations do not even dare to bring to the public attention.

We need your help. We need new digital camera [$4,546.21], microphones, memory media and fast laptop [$3,500] so we could bring you better quality reports such as the one we brought when Mayor Bloomberg decided to close 22 public schools. We worked on this report in collaboration with two major teachers’ blogs sites in the New York City. Without new equipment we will no longer be able to bring you more interviews such as the one we have done with James E. Hansen, leading NASA scientist who pioneered the research on global warming.

We need a video projector [$ 2,500], screen, amplifier, speakers and all sorts of cables [$2,000] so we would no longer have to depend on the equipment from other organizations and supporters, as the demand for screening of independent voices is increasing, and which is so hard to find in today corporate media.

Art And Struggle can not compete with corporate media, multinational art dealers, elitists art magazine or publishers who dictates the conditions, but we intend to make an indent in their empires. We can bring you meaningful art such as Hurricane Season theatre that makes the audience cry and passionately say: “yes, another world is possible”.
We have big plans ahead of us for 2010. We would like to bring you voices from inside of the Left Forum with over 600 speakers including names such as Rev. Jesse Jackson and Noam Chomsky on March 19 – 21.

We would like to bring educational art after school programs to the local, underserved and low-income communities of Central Connecticut. The programs will be taught by two long time established, widely recognized painters, one documentary photographer and one graphic artist, all of whom work in educational institutions. Children will be able to learn how to work with digital media, edit home videos and photographs, such as weddings or graduations adding a professional touch. They will be able to build personal portfolios and expand their horizons in the world of art and information.  To make it possible we need twelve basic laptops with 1.5 GHz Processors, 1 GB Memory and 80 GB of Hard Drive [$2,000], printers, for one group digital cameras [$120] for second group, paint and easels for third group.

We will be able to use this equipment in multiple classes, for several yars.

Staff, rent, electricity, flyers, transportation, fees, art opening costs and all of the little expanses we usually do not associate with these programs or digital media have a price tag attached and this is when we need your help. We are asking for your kind, tax deductible, charitable donation.  Most of our programs are possible only thanks to partnerships with multiple organizations per one project, who generously share their resources with us.

None of this will be possible, or will be able to stay alive unless you make generous donation now! If you can not afford a whole computer for our educational program [$2,000], please consider tax deductible donations of [$200] for a printer.

We Need Your Help!

Art And Struggle began as a grassroots organization, slowly became a non-profit organization and just recently gained tax deductible, 501 (c)3, status with assistance of the Middle East Crisis Committee. So far all of our programs were funded literally out of our own pockets.

All donations to Art And Struggle are tax deductible, but with out your support right now, all of it, including over hundred of pages of our website will cease to exist.

Help keep true social justice arts alive. Make a tax deductible donation to Art And Struggle today.

In order to receive the full value of your donation we prefer if you send us a check at the address bellow. You can also make donation through our website, where paypal will keep some fraction of your donation as a processing fee:  http://artandstruggle.com/Donate.htm

Our Mission:

ArtAndStruggle.Com is here to document and assemble a comprehensive educational collection of social justice art, the biggest, most diverse artist movement.

Art And Struggle is an artist & activist collective that disseminates information through cultural mediums. We promote freedom of speech and expression with justice and equality to all living creatures.

We strive towards just, equitable, long term sustainable peaceful society. ArtAndStruggle.Com is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to the development of documentary photography, investigative journalism, multimedia, rhymes, music, films, installations, art and education to engage in dialogue with our respective communities for social, economical and political change across the globe.

We seek to create a venue where ideas, exploration, creativity and the completion of such work can be achieved.

Individual vision can become a beacon that serves as a catalyst to human understanding and enlightenment of the whole society. ArtAndStruggle.Com seeks to provide a place where this creativity can grow, nourish and find an outlet.

Photography, video, music and other documents that are created from these mediums are key components of the information age. They are critical to the creation of public awareness and the resulting policies that affect or change our society. Our goal is to provide insight and perspective.

Because the resources, distribution, access to documentary, journalistic or social research is becoming more and more controlled, restricted or manipulated due to corporate globalization, government intervention and/or the dictates of the commercial market place; In depth, independent work is becoming extremely difficult to accomplish.

When evaluating the importance these independent voices contribute to the society, ArtAndStruggle.Com seeks to contribute to a venue where ideas, exploration and the completion of such work can be achieved.

Art And Struggle can not compete with corporate media, multinational art dealers, elitists art magazine or publishers who dictates the conditions of art industry, but we can make an indent in their empires. We can bring you meaningful art which believes that “another world is possible”.

All individuals are welcome, needed and appreciated no matter if you are concerned with your community, other continents, or the whole Earth, whether you produce films, are an emcee, create poetry, paint, dance, or do photography, it does not matter. Art And Struggle is here to document and assemble a comprehensive educational collection of social justice art, the biggest, most diverse artist movement.

We are far from ordinary, a non-profit gallery. We bring you picture of the world we live-in painted by not your ordinary artists.

While more and more dealers look to the Internet to find the “next big talent”, ArtAndStruggle.Com provides the ideal opportunity for the “real talent”.

Our collective is delighted to support artists in promoting real issues of this blue planet. We are extremely proud of the standard of work produced by our members, which covers a fantastic range of style and technique.
